Speaker: Brian Thompson
“Be a Big Fish in a Small Pond“
Brian Thompson is a working photojournalist, in his 33rd year at The Expositor, the Postmedia daily newspaper in Brantford, Ontario. In this line of work, one must be a jack-of-all trades in terms of photography, reacting to situations unfolding before him, being creative yet truthful in the images he creates, and dealing with less-than-ideal lighting situations.
His work runs the gamut from the peak action of high school sports and slice-of-life community moments, to concerts with legendary acts such as Aerosmith and KISS, flying in a CF-18 Hornet and the Lancaster bomber, Royal visits, and accompanying children on a one-day whirlwind trip to Disney World with the Sunshine Foundation. Brian has been a finalist or winner of 11 Ontario Newspaper Awards over the past 12 years. During his time off Brian and his wife Donna, who has developed a keen interest in photography during their 28 years together, enjoy photographing a variety of subjects, and making road trips centred around visually-interesting destinations, and trains!. He has taught photography workshops at the Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant, and is the past-president of the Brant Camera Club. http://youpose.wixsite.com/brianthompson
Ramsey, a nine-year-old German shepherd/coyote cross wears Doggles, goggles made for dogs on Monday May 2, 2016 as he rides in his owner’s Toyota Celica in Brantford, Ontario. LouAnn Totten says she gets lots of smiles and laughs from other motorists as Ramsey has his head poked out the sunroof, with the eye wear protecting him from bugs and other flying debris.
