Speaker: Marilyn Cornwall. From Snapshot to Great Shot in Garden and Flower Photography

April 6, 2021 – 7:30 pm

Marilyn’s Bio

Marilyn is a gardener and photographer living in the heart of the Niagara Peninsula with its vineyards and orchards.  Photography became a full-time endeavour just over ten years ago.  Her working life was spent in information management, business design and organizational performance improvement.

Marilyn considers herself an opportunistic photographer.  Exploration, discovery and surprise are part of her artistic process, and spontaneity is a key aspect of the experience.  She is drawn to shapes and patterns in the world of colour.  She looks for something new to discover in the ordinary.  Most of her work involves flowers and gardens:  She is a lifelong gardener and appreciator of the living world.  She is also attracted to opportunities for abstract images and find these in the dumpsters, rust and decay in the urban environment.  With a background in IT,  she enjoys manipulating and transforming images in post-processing software and filters.   She will be share her top techniques with you in her presentation.

From Snapshot to Great Shot in Garden and Flower Photography

Find out the tips and techniques of floral and garden photography and enjoy photographs of beautiful flowers and wonderful gardens along the way.  Learn how to tell a story with your floral and garden images. Included is Marilyn’s own garden story with her Toronto garden’s antique conservatory greenhouse shown through the seasons.  The emphasis is on the techniques for great floral and garden compositions rather than technical aspects of cameras and equipment.  You will learn the techniques by touring public and private gardens that are designed well.  In these gardens a good image becomes much clearer to the average person.   Gardens include Longwood,  Royal Botanical Gardens, and private properties.
