The Quest 6.5 6 6.5 19 John Bunyon Creative Silver
J1 This is quite a neat idea. Consider using a different fabric that is smoother (the thin lines are very evident), to make it appear as real landscape. The bright pink travelers are perfect and so is the line trailing behind them. Fix top left corner for color inconsistencies.

Master Or Slave--Which Are You 5.5 7 7 19.5 John Bunyon Creative Silver
J1 This is very creative concept. The positioning of the phone is perfect. But the entire image is unfortunately out of focus. Also, the background could be cleaner. The top of the background competes with the main subject. In post processing adjust for overexposure.

The Art Of Wine 8 8 8.5 24.5 HM DP Bertin Francoeur Creative Master
J1 Beautiful lighting and dark noire image. But the border cannot be the strongest part. It is brighter than anything else in the image and overpowers the dark feeling of the rest of the image. Maybe make it thinner and light grey (like the thin vertical line of the wine bottle).

Mallards On A Cold Day 7 6 6 19 John King Nature Gold
J1 Very peaceful nature image. Good low angle. Good gentle exposure. If you could get closer or isolate fewer birds or concentrate on just one, to show how they rest in winter. You have a big empty space on the bottom so this could be close cropped further. For smoother river background use longer exposure time with appropriate aperture.

Red Tailed Hawk 6.5 7 7.5 21 Geoff Dunn Nature Gold
J1 The very vivid blue over powers the hawk's soft hues. Add overall sharpness to the body and face. De-saturate sky lightly or make the hawk lighter in its wings.

Northern Cardinal Nature Gold
J1 Nice vivid colors on the bird. Unfortunately most of the image is out of focus and quite grainy. Black border would have been better. J2 Nice image of the cardinal, but it's very noisy and little feather detail is visible. Noise reduction may help.
Author: Picasa
J1 Good framing for a closeup. There are few things to improve - your background, being so bright, distracts from its head. The foreground, being blurry, again it takes away from the main subjects. Overall faster shutter speed would have helped. If you end up with image too dark, you can always brighten it, but not the other way around.
Proud Peacock 5.5 7 6 18.5 Herb McClelland Nature Gold
J1 The green and blue colors are beautiful. Concentrate on better exposure - it is too bright, and overall faster shutter speed would give you sharper subject. Composition-wise - do not chop the top feathers off.

Black Duck 6 6 6 18 Colleen Bird Nature Gold
J1 Nice closeup and contrast against the ice. There is a green cast over your entire image. Fix in post processing by adjusting for true grey on the ice. The duck's beak normally yellow is sickly green, so work with "levels" in post processing to color correct.

Osprey With Fish 7.5 8 7.5 23 Pat Wintemute Nature Master
J3 This image has a strong story. The underside of the bird is underexposed and the whites are over exposed created by the harsh lighting conditions leaving a lack of feather detail. Try increasing your shutter speed and increase your depth of filed to get more of the wings in focus

Snowy Creekside 6.5 6.5 6.5 19.5 John King Nature Gold
J1 Lovely scenery. Watch out for blown out highlights that render parts of your image without detail. J2 Very nice image. Great forms and shadows! Suggest cropping the top down to the snow and try to bring back some detail in the blown out areas. This would make an excellent candidate for the pictorial category.

Sharp Shinned Hawk 6.5 7 8 21.5 Graham Jardine Nature Gold

White Throated Sparrow 5.5 7 7.5 20 Carey Hope Nature Silver
J1 The bird is well caught. The exposure is ok. When pressing the shutter, in that moment consider the entire surrounding. Slight movement to the left and you could have probably avoided the blurry diagonal line on the bottom right. Cropping down to the blue from top would have given it more intimate capture without fighting the background.

Black Capped Chickadee 6.5 8.5 7 22 Kathryn Martin Nature Master
J1 The exposure and sharpness of the bird is quite good. Lovely soft tones and hues of early light. Consider different shooting angle to eliminate some of the twigs for less distraction. The perch twig and perhaps one or two of the plant twigs would be enough to show the habitat.

L'ile D'orleans Serenity 8.5 7.5 7.5 23.5 GPP Geoffrey Skirrow Pictorial Gold
J1 Beautiful minimalism and lavender sky. J3 The fence is a nice leading line into the tree. There may be a picture within a picture here. The maker may wish to crop the image to remove the negative space on the left with no fence. That empty area is not contributing to the composition.

Old Red Tractor - Scotsdale Farm 7.5 7 7 21.5 BPP John Kerr Pictorial Bronze
J1 Neat idea. Good composition and juxtaposition of tractor opposite the farm house. The creative de-saturation does not work like this. It makes the image too drab. If you left just a hint of dark green in there, the red would stand out even better and the sky wouldn't take over the image. This way the sky competes with the tractor with just grey in between.

Bottle Silhouette 8.5 6 7 21.5 Geoffrey Skirrow Pictorial Gold
J1 Very intriguing. Made me look for a while to see the whole concept. First you only see the the light, then you clue in on the dark parts. It's quite vertically skinny - consider the glass positioning a tiny bit further out. J2 Interesting idea, but there is not enough to grab onto, visually. Perhaps next time, add a touch of fill light on the shadow side to provide more separation from the background and to add more visual interest. Also suggest adding a very thin line around the image to separate it from the background. J3 The lighting on the glass and bottle are nicely handled. To increase viewer impact try backlighting from the left just enough to reveal the backside of the bottle to give separation from your background. Try adding a 1-2 pixel stroke around the edge of the canvas frame to define your canvas apart from the black background in the judge's scoring display

In My Garden 5.5 6 6.5 18 Barbara Boles-Davis Pictorial Gold
J1 The butterfly is fairly sharp, but the flower is so bright that it overpowers the rest of the image. Watch out for bright background distractions around the butterfly and for little things poking from the edges. Use faster shutter to render everything a tad sharper.
Tulip 6 7 6 19 Roy Oldfield Pictorial Gold
J1 The pink hues are very nice. You have some good diagonal flow happening. Play with your composition for more interesting image. Do not crop off the edges of the flower. Use longer shutter for smoother background (if it is water). J3 This is a well handled exposure but it is too tight in the frame . Try backing away or use a shorter focal length to create some negative space around your subject.

J1 The exposure is soft and pleasing as are the colors. Consider a composition where the bird is not smack in the center. Perhaps a crop where the bird has less space behind him and is facing forward into a larger space in front of him. If you close crop, you also eliminate lot of the business of the surrounding branches. The bird itself needs to be a bit sharper.

Watery Eye 7.5 7 7 21.5 Mike Mulvale Pictorial Silver
J1 The exposure is perfect, just enough for the water to remain fluid. The color tones are nice. The stark black background isolates the top drop nicely, but it could have had a slightly lighter blue tone in it to harmonize with the rest. If doing this indoors, consider more colorful fun background to reflect in the drop.

J1 Quite precious shot. The exposure and soft skin is perfect. My issue is with the white blanket. Consider using a fabric that is not textured. I am sure it was soft, but visually for a photo, it fights with the softness of the baby. Maybe crop a bit off the left edge to have the baby occupy 2/3 of the image.

J1 Good tones and colors. Exposure and depth of field are well done. The children being so close to the top right corner make the rest of the image too empty and void of interest. Position them (wait for them to be closer) third way through in the upper part. Then crop top of image slightly just beyond the top reflections.

Lisbon Night Pictorial Silver
J1 Use faster shutter speed to decrease all the overexposure. Your lamps and the glare from everything overpowers any interesting features you meant to show. If you were able to - you need to step to the right to have the lamps to the side so you can see the monuments and the road around it. Do not shoot up - more forward view would have rendered less of a converging distortion. J3 The maker had a good idea to capture a night scene. The image has a few issues The large billboard , the light post in the middle of the composition and the considerable perspective distortion in the structures. Try standing in a different place and try not to point your camera up which brings in the leaning buildings.
Snowy Day 7.5 7.5 6 21 Leonie Holmes FCAPA Pictorial Master
J2 Very nice image with interesting lines and shapes. The monochromatic appearance works very well. Technically very well handled. Escargot To Be 6 7 6.5 19.5 Roy Oldfield Pictorial Gold
J1 It's an interesting image, but he background is really harsh. Consider moving to a plate or a dark pan to make the snails more prominent from the background. J3 This image is sharp and well exposed. The composition could be improved by giving some separation between the snails and showing the viewer a background that has context for the subjects. One might expect live snails to be on a plant and cooked snail on a plate. The composition leaves the viewer puzzled about what the story might be and therefore reduces audience appeal
