J2 this is a wonderful photojouralistic image, with great tonal range and high impact. J3 good sharpness on an action picture!
suggestion?
make another copy of the original, turning Bamp;W, and then use the 'history brush' to put the colour back into just the football.

Rose Hip 9 9 7.5 25.5 HM GPP Elzbieta Piskorz Pictorial Gold
J1 Very strong technically and a moody feeling is established with the composition and addition of texture. J3 lovely image but appears to be defying gravity - at least the manner in which it had been displayed for judges.
it lacks #039;gravitational balance'
would score higher if rotated 90 degrees in a clockwise OR counterclockwise direction.
NB the darker part of a natural background is usually found closer to the ground
also, I question if the image is a composite, where the background has been added separately.
might be better entered into the creative category.

training the eye to start from lower left through to the upper right with this green stem

Distillery District In Toronto. 6.5 6 6.5 19 Simone Gomes Pictorial Bronze
J1 Sharpness is good but better detail is needed in the dark areas when converting the image to monochrome. The feeling is reminiscent of photos from the 1920s to 1930s but the gear and clothing of the people is likely from the current era. This creates a puzzle that some viewers might not appreciate and others might see as an interesting mystery.

1) light was not so harsh - place model under umbrella
2) very dark, even toned background would be better this would bring out proper skin tones, and display the clothes much better as well.

4) dark part of background also distracting, when so dark

Checkmate 6.5 7.5 7 21 Doug Doede Pictorial Master
J1 The technical quality of the capture is good. Post processing needs some improvement to avoid the halos around the dark chess pieces particularly where they intersect with the lighter tones of the chessboard. The lighting is flat and some drama could be introduced by more dramatic lighting effects since the story is about the final climax of the game. J3 would be more effective if photographed from above, looking straight down onto the chess board
OR with a much wider angle lens, at table level that includes the corner of the board
remove all pieces that don#039;t contribute to the story.
Certainly some imagination at work here - kudos !
-but there is an obvious assumption that all who view the image are familiar with chess, and the word checkmate

Erosion #6 5.5 7 6 18.5 John Bunyon Pictorial Silver
J1 Image sharpness is limited to a relatively small middle area of the image. Better to aim for sharp detail in both foreground and middle ground. A strong dark mood is created by the very dark foreground and left side of the image. This is consistent with a foggy damp day however it does not allow for full appreciation of the strong textures in the image.

Finch Feeding Time. Pictorial Bronze
J1 One of the the birds is not sharp and both have a loss of detail in the very light and very dark areas. There are light area distractions in the background. Harsh lighting conditions should be avoided and the shutter speed should be increased in capturing movement. J3 good subject to work with... but

Weathered Tobacco Barn 5.5 7 7.5 20 Don Poulton Pictorial Master
J1 This image is an impressionist rendering of the subject with a post processing treatment, likely a texture of weathered wood planks, applied to the entire image. Visual confusion has resulted so reducing the opacity of the texture layer would strengthen the image without losing the message. J3 this has been incorrectly placed in pictorial, rather than creative, by either the photographer or the competition committee (?)

Western Honey Bee 7.5 7.5 7 22 Geoffrey Skirrow Nature Gold
J1 Very good natural colours and placement of subject in the frame. The bee#039;s proboscis in flower tells the nature story. The bee's wing tips and hind end are not sharp and it's possible that a slightly different angle and greater depth of field might have been used to correct this. The out of focus flower in the foreground is often an issue for a macro image but this can sometimes be resolved by adjusting the angle.

J1 Dragonfly eating its meal is a terrific capture. The nature story is strong . Tone down the branch. The head and body of the subject is sharp but the wings are not sharp enough. Around About 5.5 7 6.5 19 Mary Gilmour Creative Master
J1 The colours are good and there is a nice grainy effect that would enhance the mood of a crazy round about ride. The repetition of elements is not organized well and instead there is visual confusion. This technique of using multiple images to produce a creative image requires many practice shots until a pleasing result is achieved. It helps to work with a camera that provides a multiple image capability in the menu and to begin with still scenes and simple shapes.

The Family 6.5 7.5 8.5 22.5 Dan Copeland Creative Master
J1 Good concept and striking colours. Very busy composition with three figures plus props and background elements. The title helps the viewer to understand the image. The claw hands establish a sense of threat, however the affectionate body language of the female and her male partner add a different dimension to the story .... this complex message is inherent in family life. This is a very original image which needs some cleaning up/simplifying to allow the viewer easier understanding.
Townhouse Backyards Creative Gold
J1 The repetition of trees is a positive compositional element and the exposure is good. However the foreground is not sharp and the midground area is over processed and crunchy. The creative nature of the image is not very strong. J2 in spite of the filter used, the shallow depth of field is bothersome. J3 lovely subject matter but would score better if
1) greater DoF used to bring everything into focus
2) composition altered to eliminate walls

4) less contrast applied.
