Water Colour 7.5 7.5 7.5 Tot 22.5 Carey Hope Pictorial Gold
J1 Great texture and colours in the rock formation. Use of a circular polarizer (or turning the polarizer, if used) would help in reducing the glare from the rock to the left of the frame and help this image.
Cropping a little from the top just below where the rocks begin will focus on the waterfall improving the overall image. Nicely done.
Kenny 7 7 7.5 Tot 21.5 Marino Favretto Pictorial Silver
J2 Moment in time captured. Watch your background as it can really take away attention from the lovely face of his. Burn (tone) down the overexposed whites. Also, de-saturate the reds tiny bit to render his face more neutral brown.
Summer#039;s End 7.5 6 7 Tot 20.5 Cherylene Stimers Pictorial Bronze
J2 Nice attempt to capture serene fog scene. Watch out for straight horizon line if you are including it. or crop just below the darkest part of horizon. Crop out right side to exclude part of boat deck sticking in. Expose for brightest parts of main dock and brighten the rest in post processing.
Moose 6.5 6 7.5 Tot 20 Laura Nelson Nature Bronze
J2 Good snap in a moment. Even when catching fast images, compose for impact. Vertical format to include the whole animal with more space above his ears would have rendered more pleasing composition. Watch for distracting elements in the background and avoid high ISO to decrease grain.
White Trillium With Bacterial Infection 7.5 6.5 8 Tot 22 Elzbieta Piskorz Nature Gold
J2 Very stark image better suited for pictorial competition. Points deducted for over exposure and very evident use of flash which renders unnaturally dark background and harsh shadows on the flower. Work on your composition from perhaps lower angle. Evaluate your background for bright distractions and move around for better composition.
Female Wood Duck 7 8.5 7.5 Tot 23 GPP Jim Maguire Nature Gold
J2 Lovely rendering of duck in its habitat. The water has almost poetic softness. The top part of the background looks less natural than the forefront. The colors on the feathers are exquisite. Could have a bit of a catch light in the eye by dodging the light streak in the pupil.
Osprey 8.5 7 7 Tot 22.5 SPP Ewa Rakowski Nature Silver
J2 Good exposure for the background, a bit too hot for the fish. Dodge or burn as needed to avoid overexposed highlights. The bird needs to be sharper in it#039;s wings and around the face. Brighten darker parts in post processing or adjust exposure or ISO for lighter hues on bird. Nice composition with plenty of space in front of subject.
Northern Green Frog 7.5 6.5 7.5 Tot 21.5 Peter McCusker Nature Silver
J2 Nice catch in natural space. Faster shutter speed needed to render the frog completely in focus as well as fix an overexposure of the foreground that distracts from the subject. It#039;s better to include more space in front of the animal, not behind. Selectively crop to improve the composition to be less central.
American Goldfinch On Thistle 7 8 7.5 Tot 22.5 John King Nature Gold
J2 Beautiful composition and inclusion of the natural habitat. Good color saturation. Manual softening of background evident due to parts with noise that were not smoothed and glow around bird#039;s head and beak. Needs a bit of a catch light in the eye. Overall result pleasing.
Carpenter Bee On Cup Plant 7 7.5 7.5 Tot 22 Bela Acs Nature Master
J2 Good sharpness of the subject. Flower saturation is at max. Please tone down the sky - it is not naturally that neon blue and it overpowers everything else in the image. De-centralize your composition by having more space to the right and cropping off a bit from the top.
F15 Vs F22 7.5 7.5 8 Tot 23 GPP Andy Langs Pictorial Gold
J1 Nice colour harmony between the airplane and background, which really is good camouflage. The obliquely placed airplane in the frame and the contrails give the image dynamism. Maker could reframe the image by providing more space in the front of the airplane for it #039;to fly into'. Also the airplane in the distance (F15) can be removed in post-processing, as it is a distraction as it is too indistinct for a comparison.
Lightwaves 7.5 7.5 7.5 Tot 22.5 Andy Langs Pictorial Gold
J2 Good creative concept. Composition could be made less central into more diagonal space, where the wave starts to the left and goes towards upper right or the opposite directions. Subject could be larger in the frame as it is the object of your shot. The light wave is somewhat too bright on the lower left and overpowers the rest of the image.
Spencer Park Splash 7 7 7.5 Tot 21.5 Peter McCusker Pictorial Silver
J2 Nice action capture with good lead in lines. The people on the left are not as important as the ladies in the middle. Crop just in front of the man in orange to exclude all remaining people. It will throw the attention at the middle figures and create more tension and impact.
Sky Art 8 6 7 Tot 21 Loretta Monteleone Pictorial Silver
J1 A well composed and presented format suites the #039;lines' formed by lay of the land and sky. The glass ornaments, compliments the colours of the sky and foliage. J2 The colors are fresh and vivid. Watch out for intersection of the object in the foreground with the horizon line. Capturing this from lower view angle would have separated the purple glass from the water line.
Guard Duty 7 7.5 7 Tot 21.5 Mary Gilmour Pictorial Master
J2 Neat way of framing the dog with the wheel chair well positioned behind him. Pleasing colors. Clone out minor distractions (bright dots) in upper right corner and yellow line to the left of the wheel. Clone catch light into his right eye to make them a focal point of the dogs face.
Deep Concentration 8 7 7.5 Tot 22.5 Bertin Francoeur Pictorial Master
J2 Emotional moment in time captured. Stark clean background. Good healthy skin color and nice vivid clothes colors. The black background causes a bit of detachment from the emotion of the pow-wow. Maybe dark green or sky blue to connect with nature. Include whole body if you can.
Train Station 7.5 6 7 Tot 20.5 John Russell Pictorial Silver
J1 The #039;vanishing point' composition of this image works well. There are a few distractions on both sides of the platform where the front of the trains end. Taking the image from further along the platform and keeping the same perspective was another option. J2 Work on your composition. The center render is nice in this case, but watch for placement of passerby people, it will make a difference.
Stormy Weather 7 6 7 Tot 20 John Russell Pictorial Silver
J2 Trying to capture mood is always hard. Whenever you can, use tripod. That way you can slow down time for better render of choppy water and dramatic clouds. The mountains in the background needed a bit more detail. J3 The image is well composed and appears sharp. The monochrome treatment works well, but the image is very contrasty. The highlights are very bright, and perhaps could be toned down.
