Meeting of the Peaks Top C 26.5 TC GPP Karen Blunt Creative Gold
J2 Simplicity of the design is superior. The colours are particularly appealing. Consider cropping some of the bottom. J3 The juxtaposition of the #039;peaks' has resulted in a graphic and abstract image. Subtle colours and use of oblique lines create a very nice viewing experience
Lemur Eyes 21.5 Barbara Bialon Nature Silver
J1 Excellent portrait with good sharpness, clarity and exposure on the face. The log and pink bottom is a bit distracting - try cropping out the left area creating more of a square image focusing on the face alone as there is not much in the background to tell a nature story.
Peppered jumping Spider 21.5 Ted Buck Nature Gold
J1 Good eye to find this little creature, interesting subject, sharp where it should be and subject well exposed. The exposure on the yellow leaves could be toned down a bit because it is overpowering the main subject.
Goldenrod Crab Spider Entraps Bee 25 HM DP Geoff Dunn Nature Master
J3 It#039;s a nature story which demonstrates the facts and cruelty of nature. In addition to the spider, there are two flies that are on the bee. Well composed, and sharp. Exposure is handled very well, with lots of details in the white spider and the bee. Good colours.
Red Wing Black Bird with Breath 19.5 Derrick Butler Nature Silver
J1 You really don#039;t need the left part of this image - the line going down on the left is very distracting and that entire area doesn't add anything to the photo. Make it a vertical focusing the attention on the subject and story you're trying to portray which is the breath and backlit bird.
Aster Flower 21 Andy Langs Nature Master
J2 The close up of the subject has been captured with lots of detail. More depth of field is necessary to bring the 3 buds into sharper focus. Moving the subject off centre would add more interest.
Common Nipplewort 19.5 Jan Huizinga Nature Bronze
J3 Complementary background colours. The subject is not completely in focus. Stopping down the lens to increase the depth of field usually helps in such cases. There is a small bright spot on the edge of the lower right frame, which is drawing the eye. Cropping it out would help this image.
Painted Lady Butterfly 19 Tracey Kenning Nature Bronze
J1 The main problem in this image is what seems to be color banding in the background showing in circles. This could be due to lack of sufficient tonal or color information in the image, maybe caused by too much editing, or excessive compression (especially to JPEG format). To avoid this always shoot in RAW and make subtle edits. As is you can try either adding some noise or add subtle blur to that area. Good macro shot of the front of the butterfly,
Grey Wolf 20.5 Mike Moffat Nature Silver
J1 Good sharpness and detail on both the wolf and the nice background. Unfortunately image has a lot of orange tint that doesn#039;t quite look natural. Adjust white balance or lower saturation or adjust tint. There shouldn't be orange fringing on the wolf's tail.
Multi Icicles 19 Cherylene Stimers Nature Silver
J1 The focus is on the icicles on the right leaving 3/4 of the photograph unfocused unfortunately. Maker would have been best zooming in the left area and filling the green with the interesting shape of the icicles or using a smaller aperture for a greater depth of field to get more of the photo sharper.
Country Road 21.5 Lan Gao Pictorial Silver
J3 The leading lines formed by the road and surrounding field and foliage draws the viewer#039;s eye in to the image. Using of a filter in post processing does not dramatically change this image.

Hanging by a Thread 21.5 Loretta Monteleone Pictorial Silver
J1 Good sharpness and general exposure, the dark areas such as the entry of the helicopter and the men are completely dark given that no light is shining on them. However, you could try opening up the shadows a bit to see if you can retrieve some detail. A slower speed would have caught some blur in the rotors of the helicopter so that it doesn#039;t look so static in the air (yes it's hovering but some motion still should show on the rotor)
Lunch 17.5 Roy Oldfield Pictorial Gold
J2 Interesting concept but suffers from poor execution. A different viewpoint could eliminate the many distractions. Consider moving closer and concentrating on the centre of the image.
Stripes 21.5 Roy Oldfield Pictorial Gold
J1 Nice geometric image , light and shadows well captured. good composition - the break in pattern on the upper right is a welcome inclusion as it breaks the monotony. Try adding more contrast so the there will be more detail on the black and whites- needs a bit of texture so image is not too flat.
Claudia C reclined 24 HM GPP Peter McCusker Pictorial Gold
J1 Image has a nice painterly effect while at the same time keeping it realistic enough for this category. Pose complements the model and exposure and composition is well done. Face seems a bit blotchy and skin on cheeks have a shine but it doesn#039;t ruin the overall image.
Can Crushing Construction Crew 21.5 Brie Langs Pictorial Silver
J1 A creative image with good exposure and pleasant colourful display. It is sharp in the centre but lacks a bit of sharpness on the left and the back right areas. This is probably because the maker took the photograph on a little bit of an angle. Try the image again by moving a bit to the right and composing it straight on so the everything is sharp. Try also a smaller aperture to increase depth of field.
Moody Toronto 22.5 Andy Langs Pictorial Master
J1 Image is too small to evaluate properly. However the composition and sharpness is good . It#039;s good in black and white but photo has a mostly grey look rather than definite blacks and whites, so try increasing the contrast a bit.
under the blossoms 21 Mike Moffat Pictorial Silver
J1 This image looks oversharpened and somehow manipulated, however it has an almost graphical look to it and all the colors are beautiful. Crop is very nice and the story is also interesting. There#039;s some over exposure on the grass but overall it is a pleasing image. The green blurry area on the tree on the left should be cloned out as it distracts.
Bumblebee on Wingstem Flower 19.5 Jim Orcheson Pictorial Silver
J2 The main centre of interest has been effectively captured and placed in the third position. The many distractions in the image are over powering. The edge merger at the bottom and softness in the stamens could be reduced by cropping to focus attention on main subject.
Budding Willows 20.5 Cherylene Stimers Pictorial Silver
J1 The image is a bit busy to really focus the attention on anything except the greenery of the trees which are a bit overexposed. Tone down the exposure in those areas and try opining up the shadows just a bit at the bottom, if possible, there seems to be a lot of detail lost there. Maybe even try cropping out about an inch off the bottom area to focus mostly on the leaves and background.
Peggy#039;s Cove 19 Cherylene Stimers Pictorial Silver
J3 There is a lot of texture in this image, primarily in the rocks in the foreground. The middle of the image including the sky seems to be blown out. Not sure if this is due to the sun. Suggest toning down in post processing - or use of a neutral density filter during shooting.
Idyllic Life 19 Cherylene Stimers Pictorial Silver
J1 The two structures are the main interest in this photo and it would have been best not to crop out the left one at the edge. The houses are sharp but the greenery not as much, and there#039;s a lot of it. Try a horizontal crop of it, it would probably add more impact.
Murano Reflections 22.5 Karen Blunt Pictorial Gold
J1 Nice reflection image with good sharpness. The shadow on the top (boat?) is a bit distracting as it covers the nice colourful reflection. There are 2 dust spots on the water that need to be removed (centre and far left)
