J3 Excellent composition, interesting viewpoint and nice clouds. Unfortunately, the image appears to be over-sharpened, which makes it look unnatural. This image is worth working on. Suggest backing off on the sharpening, removing the lens flare in the bottom left, reducing the digital noise in the sky and darkening the foreground a little.

J1 Noise in the background could be softened. J3 Try cropping in tighter-some off the right and the bottom. That would help to remove some of the background distraction. Good sharpness and exposure. Bug is well placed.

J2 Think about simplifying the composition. Does the bottom bud add or detract?

J1 More depth of field so all of the petals are sharp would enhance the image. J3 The flower is 'floating', it should have some part of the stem showing. There doesn't appear to be enough sharpness, All the stamen, at least, should be sharp. Background is well handled.

Weathered Tobacco Barn 5.5 7 7.5 20 Don Poulton Pictorial Master
J1 This image is an impressionist rendering of the subject with a post processing treatment, likely a texture of weathered wood planks, applied to the entire image. Visual confusion has resulted so reducing the opacity of the texture layer would strengthen the image without losing the message. J3 this has been incorrectly placed in pictorial, rather than creative, by either the photographer or the competition committee (?)

J1 Good concept. the detail/texture and lighting on the bird and squirrel are so different from the rest of the image that they just look pasted on top. The result is an in-cohesive image. Consider applying some of the texture from the background to the bird and squirrel to create a smoother blend.
